What's on

Cambridge

Cambridge is perhaps best known for colleges, punts and bicycles.

Cambridge is just 50 miles from White Lodge Farm, but, as parking in Cambridge is limited, it is perhaps best visited by train (if you drive the 'Park and Ride' is recommended). Travelling by train, there's an hourly service from Wymondham and Attleborough, each of which is around a 15 minute drive from White Lodge Farm, with a scheduled train journey time of about an hour.

On arriving at Cambridge, you can walk into the town (around 15 minutes), take a bus, or, better still, hire a bike (you can even take a bike with you on most trains).

There's plenty to see in Cambridge for a day trip, but those travelling by train might also want to stop off at Ely, to take a closer look at the magnificent Ely Catherdral, which dominates its Fenland setting.

Cambridge itself offers beautiful architecture, riverside walks, punting, cafe's and coffee bars in abundance, shopping, the thriving Cambridge Arts Theatre, an open air market and the Corn Exchange, which specialises in live music.

The University of Cambridge celebrates its 800th anniversaryin 2009 and no visit to Cambridge is complete without a visit to King's College Chapel, the largest and most spectacular of the college chapels in Cambridge, which is open to the public most afternoons.

Visitors should also take the opportunity to stroll around one or two of the 31 colleges which make up Cambridge University and to amble along the banks of the River Cam, around which the colleges are laid out. Then there's the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Botanic Garden, St John's College Bridge of Sighs and the Imperial War Museum at nearby Duxford. Also in Cambridge itself is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of only four Norman round churches in England.

And if you're feeling more adventurous you can explore by bicycle or punt. Punting and cycle tours can be enjoyed with or without guides and, in the case of punts, chauffeurs are also available.

"Cambridge is well worth a day out, and it's not too far! The tour on the bus was a good idea. Next time we'll do the boat trip!"
