A brief history of White Lodge Farm Cottages
The cottages are set in the heart of rural Norfolk, where the
productivity of the soil has meant that agriculture has been the
principal land use for many centuries.
White Lodge Farm was principally a dairy farm and worked by horses less
than 40 years ago. Although commercial farming ceased in
1996, the meadows are still surrounded by arable farmland, producing
principally sugar beet, rape, wheat and potatoes. However dairy cattle,
sheep, pigs and geese are all raised in the area.
Having acquired White Lodge Farm in 2000, Helen & Tony set about converting the
remaining buildings around the former cattle yard into the comfortable
accommodation which today forms White Lodge Farm Cottages.
Thankfully, they were in rather better
condition than the building pictured here, which, perhaps unsurprisingly, had disappeared by
the time that Helen & Tony bought White Lodge Farm!
The painstaking process of the conversions started early in 2001 with
work on the old dairy (now Dairy Cottage). Work on the disused barn (now The Barn) was
next instigated and finally work was begun on the former stables and harness room (now Stable Cottage).
The aim was to provide quality self-catering accommodation for
the more discerning visitor and attention to detail
and to the requirements of modern living throughout the conversion
process and into the
decoration, furnishing and equipping of the cottages has led to the
comfortable and well-appointed accommodation
now on offer as White Lodge Farm Cottages.
